The richest cricket tournament in the world boycotted sponsorship from China

September 6, 2020

Cricket India’s Executive Board Chairman, Sourav Ganguly, said that the decision of the country’s top cricket tournament (IPL Twenty20) to suspend the lucrative contract with main sponsor Vivo (China) was just … not a big deal.
IPL last week suspended a deal with Vivo, the Chinese company that signed a five-year contract in 2017 worth more than $ 330 million to sponsor the world’s richest cricket tournament. “I wouldn’t call it a financial crisis. It’s just a bit of uncertainty. BCCI has a very solid foundation,” said Ganguly, head of Cricket in India (BCCI). – matches, athletes, administrators in the past made this tournament very strong so BCCI can handle all such incidents.
Mr. Ganguly added at an online meeting last weekend quoted by Press Trust of India: “You leave your options open. It’s like Plan A and Plan B. ”Previously, Vivo said its decision to cancel the sponsorship deal had been agreed by both parties.
According to AFP, the wave of calls to boycott Chinese companies and products in India has increased after the clash on the two countries’ borders on June 15. This clash left 20 Indian soldiers dead. The Indian government has banned dozens of Chinese smartphone apps – including popular video-sharing platform TikTok – and has also taken other measures to restrict trade with China.
IPL and BCCI have partnerships with companies including Paytm, Swiggy, Dream11, and Byju, all of which are Chinese-owned. According to reports, BCCI has been in talks with Indian companies on sponsorship deals but is expected to make less than $ 60 million they receive from Vivo.

Each of the IPL’s eight teams will lose nearly $ 4 million in funding lost after a boycott of Chinese sponsors, a tournament official told AFP but requested anonymity. The prestigious IPL Twenty20 tournament is bringing huge revenue to BCCI and is estimated to generate more than $ 11 billion for the Indian economy. Tournaments usually start in March, but have been postponed several times this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, in the same year, both the men’s and women’s cricket teams won the prestigious Ashes after their victory to the Australian team. A historic trophy for England’s cricket, both teams were honored by a parade, standing on an open bus.
In addition, both teams were also warmly welcomed by the Prime Minister at home at 10 Downing Street to celebrate.
Isa Guha recalls: “The celebration took place with tens of thousands of enthusiastic spectators welcoming in two sides of the road. It was like a rock concert, the streets of London were crowded with people and buses were running slowly. Meanwhile, with our athletes, everyone frantically celebrated on the bus and drank champagne continuously.
Then, the parade lasted more than an hour but still could not reach the destination. Some people, including me, have begun to show signs of wanting to go to the toilet.

Barbados is the top 01 cricket team which lays the foundation for the West Indies cricket

July 19, 2020

Despite the fact that this year, the West Indies regional four-day tournament has been suffer from being cut short, remains 2 rounds to be held due to the widespread of COVID-19 , Barbados, who were ranked top 1 after winning five out of the total seven games, have recently been announced to be the 2019/20 winners. It was their first time to gain the most prestigious tile of four-day tournament in six seasons. Guyana was the one and only team to win 5 previous titles. Henderson Broomes who is the chairman of selectors, expressed his opinion: “But we have a saying here in Barbados. We don’t rate our success by regional victory. We rate our success on how our international players go on the international stage.”

This statement seems to be total understandable to most cricket fans as when we take into consideration the fact that Barbados have been an indispensable part recently in numerous West Indies regional competitions, and they successfully made the victory come true on 23 succesive occasions. So which is the 2nd most successful team? It is the Jamaica which won 12 victories during the same period. This island really knows how to produce the best cricket players of all time who made the most impressive performances during different plays. There are some impressive worth mentioning are Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Clyde Walcott and Sir Frank Worrell, to Wes Hall and Sir Garry Sobers to Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, Malcolm Marshall and Joel Garner. An all-time Barbados XI would suffer from failure.

However, the traditional strength of Bajan cricket soon disappeared just after a short period. They won the one and only regional title in thirteen years after becoming the winner as nowadays.

Jermaine Blackwood – deserved to be the new legend of the cricket world?

July 13, 2020

Coming from Jamaica, Blackwood is now a 28-year-old middle-order batsman. Blackwood is a talent-endowed stroke maker who has played more than 100 first-class games throughout his career.

He was the top of players who scored most goals during the 2013-14 domestic first-class season in West Indies. In addition, Blackwood succeeded in gaining 63 scores for his Test debut taking place in June 2014, during the home Test series in competition with New Zealand team.

During the regular tour of playing for Zimbabwe in October 2017, he scored nine fifties and a hundred (against England, in 2015) but not long time after fell off the radar. He quickly scored 15 runs for his last five innings in the play and then was dropped by the side.

Impressive and outstanding performances in the domestic first-class system helped Blackwood to stand the chance of staying within close distance with the West Indies first XI. However, he still caused a shock to the whole cricket community as a concussion substitute against India in 2019, he did not succeed in making the team until the first Test against England in Southampton.

How did Blackwood make the cut for the first Test?

Before the whole 2020 first-class season was heavily affected by the outbreak and widespread of the pandemic, during its eight matches being held under normal condition, right-handed batsman Blackwood was the most successful scorer when he succeeded in pummelling 768 runs in 15 innings for Jamaica, which included a double hundred against Leeward Islands in the tournament’s last match.

Roger Harper who is the chairman of selectors in West India, expressed his opinion ahead of the tour that Blackwood marked a return to the side “on the sheer weight” of his first-class performances. Harper had also praised Blackwood for his great patience and consistency in 2020. But Blackwood might not make his appearance throughout the whole series at all, if it had not been for the decision made by Shimron Hetmyer and Darren Bravo to not tour England.

Bairstow did not stand the chance of being highly rewarded, however, ‘doors not closed’

July 5, 2020

Jonny Bairstow did not make it happen to become part of England’s 13-man squad, however, all chances did not close on him to take part in the Test cricket. Chief selector Ed Smith confirmed that it is the most suitable choice for the 30-year-old to make his presence in the white-ball bio-bubble during this cricket season unlike any other cricket players.

Smith admitted that it was quite rare and not normal for any squads to pick their players during the outbreak of this pandemic. This is also the reason why a lot of first-class cricket players were absent from the list as they had to bear a lot of other things apart from just simply competing in their minds. “That also meant that there would be a greater reward for players who performed well in England’s 3-1 series victory in South Africa. Jos Buttler, who is the “man in possession” of the ‘keeping gloves and to whom England extend “full support, is also one of them.”

“No one doubts he’s a very good cricketer across formats for England. No doors are closed for Jonny,” Smith shared his viewpoint. He said that the organizers all know the ability as well as what they can do in Test cricket, as well as considered how talented he is in all forms of the game. It’s also the case that we are where we were. As the Covid-19 has been getting worse and caused a lot of cancellation for cricket world, Jos Buttler would the man in possession – still is the man in possession. They will continue giving their full support as England’s ‘keeper-batsman. Ben Foakes is now the deputy on the Sri Lanka tour.

Bairstow, who is a player of a 30-man cricket training group in Southampton, revealed to have his reb-ball stocks on display recently.

Pakistan cricket team prepare to fly to England without the presence of 10 Covid-positive players

June 27, 2020

It came as the worsrt news when there are 10 Pakistan cricket players were tested positive for Covid-19. They will not be on the list of players who will make flight to compete on Manchester on this Sunday. The other 18 players who were tested negative for the pandemic with the staff and assisstants team who were all tested carefully will be allowed on the flight and board the charter plane set up by the ECB. All of them were tested second times and all the results have been published by the PCB on Saturday.

The news was confirmed after the recent annoucement of ECB in a press, stated that members of the Pakistan travelling party being tested positive would “not be allowed to be on board with the advance group”. Though the annoucement did not clearly give detailed information, however, the word “advance group” were utilized, implied certain changes on the formation in comparison to the initiative one being unfolded on the 28th of June. May be these players will need to return 2 negative tests to be qualified enough for the flight.

This appears to be not suitable for the whole PCB if they decided to give permision to all 28 players in the squad to be on the same flight, after they were known to be considering dropping the requirement of two negative tests before the permission to depart for England was granted.

That would still be dangerous when there are 10 Pakistan players and one member of the support staff returning being infected to Covid-19 earlier this week, all of them did not have any clear systoms of the pandemic before hand. They were tested for a second time on Friday, and if the results turn out to be negative, they would have the chance to travel with the other 18 players iof the squad again. However, if the results remain unchanged, the PCB will back to the original schedule, which means those ten players will be tested for the third time on June 29, and make a commercial flight to England later on once they have provided two negative tests.

ROSTON CHASE: ”ALWAYS WANTED TO SCORE A CENTURY IN ENGLAND”

June 24, 2020

Still suffering from injury, however, Roston Chase will soon compete with Jofra Archer for the on-the-way 3 Test series between England and West Indies. It will not, by the way, be the first time that these 2 cricketers appeared to be the competitors of each other in England.

Five years ago, Chase and Archer both took part in a club cricket within the Sussex Premier League. Chase, at that time was playing for Cuckfield, had already succeeded in playing for the first-class cricket of Barbados and also a couple of months earlier had just earned two half-centuries for the West Indies Board President’s XI, defeated Michael Clarke’s Australia in a tour match in Antigua.

Archer, who is 3 years younger than Chase, at that time was playing for Middleton-on-Sea, still on it’s way to make his first-class debut for Sussex when they met for a one-day game in July 2015 at Middleton’s Sea Lane ground. “I do remember the game we played against Jofra,” Chase said. “He got five wickets, he got me out.”

Taking the new ball, Archer reduced Cuckfield, who had won the toss and decided to bat, to five for eight, an opening burst which included pinning Chase LBW first ball. After six overs, however, Archer pulled up injured. “Things became so much easier for us,” Chase said. “We ended up getting a big total and we ended up winning the game quite easily.

“I knew Jofra [already]. I did play against him in the league in Barbados. He was quite young though, playing for the Barbados youth combined schools team. He was always a good talent but he was not always that fast. He had some pace but he wasn’t as rapid as he is now.”

Chase scored four half-centuries in 14 matches for Cuckfield but only averaged in the mid-20s with the bat. Nevertheless, he credits his spell in Sussex with toughening him up.
